Name: Rise ‘Risette’ Kujikawa
Age: 16
Fandom: Persona 4
Appearance: Standing at 5’1” and having a weight of 90lbs, Rise is a petite girl with red hair pulled up into pigtails and light brown eyes. She has the typical cute appearance and charm of a pop idol.
History: http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Rise_Kujikawa | http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persona_4#Story
Canon Point: After the true ending; Social Link maxed but no relationship
Personality:
Rise is a pop idol in Japan who grew up in the small country town of Inaba. She grew up being the shy kid although, the one nobody really paid any mind to or expected anything out of. Also being a target of bullying, everything added up to her being lonely a lot of the time. After a relative entered her into an Idol Competition and Rise had the luck of winning, however, this boosted her spirits into believing that it would result in her gaining all the friends she wished she had. This backfired though as she soon came to realize none of these ‘friends’ actually liked her and were only interested in her fake personality that was her face as an idol- Risette. Nobody was interested in Rise beyond her new famous counterpart, so she remained feeling that lonely emptiness inside her.
Her idol gig became a huge success, landing her commercial spots and even movie roles. Risette became well-known through Japan thanks to all of this, and soon enough Rise became this new version of herself for everyone. Energetic and confident, always-happy and friendly to everyone, never was she openly the lonely and confused inner-self she truly was inside, and eventually this led to her doubting she even had a real self. Her doubts lead to Rise quitting the idol scene under the guise of a hiatus. She moved back to Inaba to work with her grandma in the tofu shop, basically trying to revert back to her old life. It didn’t help though. Sure, everyone back home made a big fuss over her arrival home, but not really her arrival- it was all for Risette.
Risette is a part of herself she came to hate, although because of it she is a skilled singer and actress. It also helped her gain a knowledge on celebrity living, and more than likely fashion and makeup, and also how society is. Because of how idols are perceived to be by their fanbases, Rise had begun putting on a different appearance for others even outside of her job so that people would come to like her. In reality, she hates when people want to get close to her to just so they can say they know Risette.
She does act on her cute idol appeal a lot, one of the main ways is how she will openly flirt with the main character and tease her close friends. With the main character although, she knows her crush is nothing but obvious, but she also knows at the same time that he will more than likely never feel romantically towards her back. Either way, she still shows her feelings for everyone to see, even as he left on the train back home in the end. Her loving nature is not too surprising though, since she is the Lover’s Arcana in the game.
When Rise became a target for the killer in Inaba, her shadow revealed this hidden side of her. As it acted out by claiming to “reveal every last inch” (even running around in a gold bikini) and being over-sexualized, as far as even her dungeon being a strip club. This shadow had shown Rise’s fears of being seen as a sexual person due to how her job is, and her belief that there was no such thing as a “real” her all along. Her insecurities do stick with her for quite a bit even after her dungeon, but gradually she comes to conquer them with help. By the end of her social link with the main character, Rise acknowledges that all these sides of her are herself, and that nothing can or will change that. The shy and friendless girl, Risette, and the Rise her friends have come to know and love are all truly her, and she decides to go back to being an idol, promising the main character such.
Through the battle against her shadow, Rise gained the power of Persona and became the group’s new support in place of Teddie. Doing this even while in a weak state due to the encounter with her shadow shows her willpower is strong, and that she will go to help her friends no matter how her own well-being is. Although, they weren’t even really her friends yet- not until after the battle officially, anyway, since she had thought they actually wouldn’t like her because she wasn’t really the way Risette had made people perceive her. When she does befriend them and joins the team, she shows this when she tells them "I know I sounded gloomy and all from stress, so I thought you might not like me that way." Since her persona is not a battle-oriented one like everyone else's, Rise finds that being their backup is a great way to give back to her friends she cares so dearly for, even if she has to put in extra work to keep up with her supportive skills. She doesn’t mind it. This is because she understands that her friends’ lives are in her hands as much as she puts her own in theirs.
Rise shows she is prone to jealously quite easily throughout the game. During her social link with the main character, when she finds out her manager found a new girl to take her place, Rise exhibits this towards the other girl. She also tells the main character not to call other girls cute when she is in his presence, since she doesn’t like it. Even when the main character fights Margaret she makes a jealous comment about how pretty the woman is and inquires how they know each other in a slightly demanding way.
Even though she helps her grandma run a tofu shop, Rise herself is terrible at cooking. She has a tendency to add too much spice to her food, and it burns the mouth of anyone who attempts to eat it. She also had shown a bit of a competitive side by challenging Yukiko and Chie to compare their cooking skills...although they all aren’t any good.
As her Persona probably represents about her with it’s ability, Rise is good at understanding others’ feelings. This trait possibly was developed from her lonely times as a child, observing those round her since she didn’t have anyone to talk to on her own. Also from what you could guess from her bubbly personality, Rise is quite a forgiving person as well. She cannot stay mad at someone unless they’ve done something horrible (like the killer, as a prime example), and she’ll feel sympathy for someone even if they don’t seem to deserve it. She also has those moments though where she acts a bit childish, stomping her foot when angry and puffing her cheeks out, that still managed to add to her cute appeal.
A good way to summarize Rise in general was actually said in-game by her grandmother who compared her to tofu, which "looks weak and fragile, but it's actually pretty resilient. Even though it stands out because it's not like any other food, it can be mixed in with any recipe or flavor." No matter how different she is from everyone else, she’s always herself. Even if she comes off as weak, she is strong hearted and will fight for her friends, and won’t back down when she is faced with conflict.
Game Specific
Suitability:
What would a reality TV show like this be without an Idol thrown in the mix?
Rise may not be a battler, but she’s helped her friends in plenty of fights against shadows back in the television world by analyzing the enemies and shouting out support for the team when things look tough, so she is familiar with battles at least to an extent. Plus there is her personality. Cheerful and flirtatious, it’s quite easy to come to like her. But even aside from this, she’s got a competitive side to her, so just maybe this game will bring this out of her since the prize is what she wants- going back home!
Weapon:
Rise's weapon is similar to the visor her Persona holds over her eyes in the game, but it's not just a visor- it's a full helmet. It also has the satellite on it like her persona, too. The helmet allows her to scan the area around her up to 10ft, and she can see the strengths of anyone in that range.
The satellite basically shoots them with a beam, and this is her basic attack. Being knowledgeable on the opponents strengths, the helmet can attempt to build up a barrier blocking said strength to protect Rise. The only downfall to this is, it only shields the front of her, leaving her back as a vital weak-point if she can’t turn around quick enough, plus considering how much energy she has charged up (but this is mentioned later).
If the laser from the satellite builds up long enough it can do extra damage than a normal laser hit would, and upgrades later on can increase this more considerably, but chances are it won't have much time to really do that now unless her opponent goes into hiding or something of the sort and gives her the needed buildup time.
Along with this, there are two hose-like tubes coming out of the sides of the helmet and connecting to a pair of opera-length gloves. The palms of these gloves have a contraption built into them that can shoot the same type of lasers the satellite does, just..from her hands. They are in a disc shape rather than a straight beam, although. The point of the glove attachments to the helmet is so that if in case someone does get behind her, she has these as a last chance of defense to protect herself in some way since the satellite cannot hit someone that close to her.
Rise can also see where people are around her only while in her scanner's reach, and can try to avoid them if they come close, but otherwise she's completely vulnerable to long-range attacks because she can't sense them with the helmet on. All that she can see is what it shows her, so pretty much with this helmet, Rise's blinded.
Thus, her main weaknesses in combat are long-range attackers, and close-range attacks to the back. So even if she knows her opponents strengths, she still doesn’t have a huge advantage.
Seeing as her weapon uses lasers, it obviously will need to recharge. If she doesn’t, things will start to go dim inside the helmet, and eventually leave her unable to see a thing. To charge it, she has to shake her head vigorously as if signaling “no” until everything brightens back up again. Using charged up beams means Rise has to do this as soon as that attack finishes or else she’ll be left in the dark, they take up a lot of energy to do. Normal beams from the satellite and her gloves won’t wear down her energy supply as fast as a charged-up one will, she can manage to shoot off 7 of them before having to recharge. The barrier she can set up from attacks can last for as long as she still has an energy supply built up. If she had fired, say, 6 shots and then put up the barrier it would last for approximately half a minute in length. Fully charged, it will last 3 ½ before needing to be refilled.
Also, the satellite cannot be in use if her gloves are. The helmet can only handle one or the other at once or else it will basically lock up, and leave her incapable of attacking.

This had to be a joke.
Finally the killer had been caught in Inaba and things were going back to normal, she was even set to go back into her idol career in the Spring...but now Rise found herself in a strange place she'd never been before. All she had to go off of was the note on the dresser, and it wasn't much assistance to her at all.
Santa Destroy? Where was this place? The name sounded like a fake city in a movie, and the reason she was here only added to the movie-like atmosphere. She had to be ready to face the dangers ahead..what did that mean? If they were expecting her to fight, they chose the wrong person for this little 'game' of theirs!
She reread the note a bit once more. It mentioned receiving a weapon, did she have one? Placing the note down, Rise walked around the room looking for it, but not for long. Her eyes fell upon the box laying next to the bed, it looked like any ordinary UPS package to her, but inside there was the weapon these strange people had sent her. Cautiously, Rise opened the box and looked inside.
A sleek-looking white object was in the box. It had a satellite ontop of it, it reminded the girl of her Persona back in the television world. She pulled it out of the box to examine it more closely, seeing there was a black visor that wrapped around it as well to cover her eyes. Her weapon...was a helmet? That was strange, she was expecting something more average- a sword, a bow. Something. But then, maybe it was her luck she got an out of the ordinary weapon, she herself wasn't ordinary, either.
She put the helmet onto her head, it was completely dark with it on and Rise found she couldn't see a thing. Moving her hand about on the helmet, her fingers found a round little button on the side. Clicking it, instantly the visor shot on. The room was shown on the screen in almost a night vision goggle appearance! Oh...right, the helmet had these gloves that attached to it, too? She slipped on the pair and admired them on her hands. The palms of them lit up, a little orb in the center on both of them. What did these do? Rise didn't really want to use them and find out...but chances are she'd have to, anyway.

[The screen flicked on. A red haired girl with pigtails sat in view on the screen, smiling into the camera. Rise was trying not to show how uncomfortable and worried she was, and she was quite good at it.]
Hey there Santa Destroy! It’s Rise Kujikawa here! [Her voice was as perky as usual, at least, dragging out the ‘i’ sound in her first name as she spoke loudly to whomever would be watching the network right now.]
It’s sort of boring here isn’t it? There isn’t a lot to do around the city here to get our minds off of all the bad going on. So~ I’ve decided I’m going to hold a concert for all you lucky people stuck here with me! It’s not everyday you get to see an idol from Japan perform after all!
I figure, why not please my fans while also making the LBs I need for my ranking match, right? [Rise did a smile and a wink into the camera to add some cute charm to the video.] If anyone’s interested in it, just contact me!
Bye!
[Blowing a kiss to the viewer with one hand, the other pressed the button on the communicator to turn the video feed off.]
